We're "famous"! Intske (left) and Annetje (right) posed one early morning for a ASA (Ameri-Can Stabyhoun Association) newletter article on safe dog travel, as our members prepare to travel to Latrobe, PA for the 2019 Ameri-Can Stabyhoun Association Specialty!

We absolutely look forward to this event that occurs every two to three years, where our dogs are reviewed by Dutch Stabyhoun judges. We participate in AKC certificate events such as Farm Dog Certification, Canine Good Citizen, and enjoy training workshops, a banquet, autction, agility, barn hunt and meet old friends and new. The facility, B&D Event Center, is top-notch and the cadre of volunteer members that make this happen are extraordinary folks, contributing to the success of the Stabyhoun breed in the U.S.A. by making this possible.

To say this event contributes to the success of the Stabyhoun in the U.S. is not hyperbole: this event allows Dutch standards to be applied to our breeding population, and allows Dutch judges to inform owners, breeders and the Breeders Advisory Committee (BAC) of their expert review of each dogs conformation. As in the Netherlands, U.S. breeding dogs are required to pass at least two reviews by a Stabyhoun judge with a "Very Good" or "Excellent" rating. This is one of a few key requirements to breed your Stabyhoun: hips/elbows OFA certified after 2 years of age, two reviews by judges that are "Very Good" or "Excellent", good temperament, and a suitable pairing considering COI (Coefficient of Inbreeding), and health pedigree. With these controls and the expanding world of genetic information available on our breed, we can work towards ensuring the breed remains a healthy population of great dogs.

To fellow Stabij owners headed to Latrobe, see you there! I'm bringing the best of VT wine for the Cork Pull, and a Vermont Basket for the Auction that will include some maple products, Citizen Cider, and more! I can't wait to see everyone and their Stabijs!
