I visited the Dutch Association for Stabij and Wetterhounen (NVSW) website today and was pleasantly reminded of a lovely day spent with dozens of dogs, dog folk, and an organization that has devoted itself in the Netherlands, and worldwide, to the Stabyhoun and Wetterhoun.

CHECK OUT THE PHOTOS of the Fokkersdag here and here;  Our Ameri-Can Stabyhoun Association attended this event at the  invitation of the NVSW and stayed for a summit with other Stabyhoun clubs from around the world, in an effort to continue t...

"Keeping a Breed Alive" may sound a bit dramatic, but its the bottom-line of what the Ameri-Can Stabyhoun Association (ASA) and clubs world-wide are doing.

Today, more than ever, we have a greater understanding of population genetics, and researchers possess the scientific tools to test DNA (at reasonable cost) to assess individual dogs and the breed population as a whole.

Recently, a sampling of what we can analyze and an explanation of the data from the DNA analysis of Stabyhouns in the ASA was presented by Lee Brewer at...

As I look back on this past weekend's Ameri-Can Stabyhoun Association's (ASA) 2019 Specialty in Latrobe, PA , it strikes me that we can literally see the success the association has achieved in the U.S. and Canada:

  • Many young dogs attending after some wonderful litters were bred in the last two years

  • New members participating in the Specialty and other events

  • Successful litter evaluations

  • Dozens of dogs receiving very good or excellent evaluations from the two respected Dutch judges

  • Record number of...

We're "famous"!  Intske (left) and Annetje (right) posed one early morning for a ASA (Ameri-Can Stabyhoun Association) newletter article on safe dog travel, as our members prepare to travel to Latrobe, PA for the 2019 Ameri-Can Stabyhoun Association Specialty!

We absolutely look forward to this event that occurs every two to three years, where our dogs are reviewed by Dutch Stabyhoun judges.  We participate in AKC certificate events such as Farm Dog Certification, Canine Good Citizen, and enjoy training workshops, a banque...

We are sad to report that Nanna Anke van de Eenhoornliejn, who lent her name to our Intske Anke fan de Moaie Hôvingen as her great grandmother, passed away this weekend, joining Intske's grandmother Aiske Jidske fan'e  Álde Leane, who passed away in late December, 2018.

Anke would be 14 years old this year; she came from a litter of 10 puppies, 2 males and 8 females.  She whelped 3 litters, contributing Anton Jelmer fan de Moaie Hôvingen NJK, NK, CIE, LUX, VHD (Intske's grandfather) and Hyke Wiske fan de Moaie H...

On March 27, 2019 I traveled to the Netherlands to meet and bring home our second Stabyhoun, Anne Zonnehoeve, bred by Wousje Bos.  Over the next 5 days, I met new friends and old; got acquainted with Anne's mother, grandmother and half-sister; attended a meeting of the Dutch Stabyhoun Association NVSW (Nederlandse Vereniging voor Stabij- en Wetterhounen) breeding committee; fell in love with Anne; and had long talks about breeding and Stabyhouns.

Heart-felt thanks (hartelijk dank) go out to all those who made this po...

When Spring comes, we will be traveling to the Netherlands again; this time to visit friends and bring home a female Stabyhoun pup!

Ed and I are beyond excited, and we're preparing the house to be as puppy proofed as possible.  I've been looking at the daily photos sent by our pup's breeder, and organizing my trip.  The pups are only weeks old, so there is a lot of growing to do between now and the trip home.  Our new pup has lots of brothers and sisters, and they're all doing wonderfully, growing so fast!...

Every few years the Ameri-Can Stabyhoun Association (ASA) holds a Specialty, gathering Stabyhouns and their owners from the U.S. and Canada together with Dutch Judges, speakers, and visitors for three days of fun for dogs and people.  This year, the Specialty will be held in Latrobe, PA at a wonderful facility, B&D Creekside Activity Center , on July 18-21.  Click here for the schedule of events!

For breeding Stabyhouns, this is the place to be reviewed by at least two judges which is a general requirement for breeding...

My girl, Intske Anke fan de Moaie Hôvingen, has a lot to look up to!  Her GREAT GRANDMOTHER, of whom she is named after, is 13 and still winning at International dog shows!!

Just this past weekend, Nanna Anke vd Eenhoornleijn earned Bitches CAC  and Veteran  at the Dogshow Maastricht, a show with 3,000 competitors and judges from 11 countries.

Anke is now a new Dutch Veteran Champion and Dutch Champion!

She wasn't the only winner from Stabijkennel fan de Moaie Hôvingen, either!

Intske's grandfather...

Intske and I had a great weekend.  Our first stop was the German Shepherd Club of Southern New Hampshire's Herding Instinct and Farm Dog Certification Testing in Spencer, MA.  What fun!

First, for Instke, it was doggie heaven with sheep dung all over the fields and sheep to watch!  For me, it was an occasion to talk dogs and I ran into acquaintances with other rare breeds including Yvonne Bunevich with her Bergamaso, Sophie.  It's really fun when you meet a few people at a dog event and get to know them via Faceb...
